Christianity and Politics in the United States of America – Part 3

SHOULD I VOTE?

Pastor Bill Johnson made the following statement:  Without God, I cannot.  Without me, God will not.  Let me repeat that.  Without God, I cannot.  Without me, God will not.  Simply put, our prayers bring God into the situation, but it is our feet and hands in action that carry out His plans and purposes.  In Genesis 1:26, He gave authority and dominion to mankind.  We are the part of the body that is to do the work.  Soooooooooo………

Yes!  It is our responsibility to vote.  I do not have a choice and neither do you if you are a child of God.  We can say we all have a choice, and that is a true statement.  But just because God has given us a free will and allows us to make choices, it does not automatically follow that the choice we make is correct.  If I want to do His will and please Him, my choices become very narrow and focused.  Matthew 7:13 tells us to enter through the narrow gate.  For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

Voting is the way every American can exercise his or her voice in government.  God has given us this country and He expects us to protect and rule over what He has provided.  Matthew 25:14-30 is the parable of the talents.  The Master was going on a long journey and left his servants with talents to watch over.  The servant with five talents and the servant with two talents doubled their talents and were rewarded by the Master.  The servant with the one talent buried his talent and returned the one talent when the Master returned.  The Master was angry and called him a wicked and slothful (lazy) servant.  The one talent was given to the servant with ten talents.  Our vote is like the talent.  We will lose what we do not use.  Only 1 in 5 Americans choose the President and only 1 in 8 Americans choose their governors, mayors, county, city officials or other elected officials.  These numbers tell us that others are choosing our government for us.  If we do not like the candidates available to us, it is our fault if we have not voted.

WHO DO I VOTE FOR?

Charlie Kirk, CEO and founder of Turning Point, USA said that we are not voting for a person or party in 2020.  We are voting for a world view.  No truer statement can sum up this election.  There is a vicious battle for the heart of America.  The battle is between our democratic republic and atheistic socialism / communism.  Make no mistake.  Socialism and communism are the same spirit.  Socialism has been called communism without a gun.  Socialism “sounds” good because it “sounds nice”.  But socialism is anti-God.  It completely removes and obliterates God from society.

David Barton, founder and CEO of Wallbuilders, states that we should not vote for personalities or individuals.  Our votes should not be cast based on race, gender, religion, looks, how one speaks or presents themselves, whether they are dog owners or cat owners, etc.  (Believe it or not, polls taken in the past show that all these things determine how many people vote.)  Our votes should be based on what the party platform says.  Why?  Because the platform is a written list of the values and actions supported by each party and tells us what a party will work for and what it wants the country to become.  It also tells us how they expect all the members of the party to vote.  You may not think party platforms are important.  However, many former and current politicians will tell you that the parties do, in fact, put pressure on legislators in different ways to toe the party line.

“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”  Abraham Lincoln

Many Christian leaders have referred to President Trump as a modern-day Cyrus.  Who was King Cyrus?  He was the pagan Persian King that allowed the Israelites to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the city.  An important distinction was made by Pastor Kynan Bridges.  The Lord showed him that King Cyrus was “the protector of the builders”.  The Israelites were the builders.  Why is this important?  Because we need to see God’s plan for today.  He put a fighter, an “in your face” personality, A PROTECTOR in the White House.  Who is he protecting?  He is protecting the builders.  Who are the builders?  THE CHURCH.  We have been given dominion in our country and we are not only to build the church back up to take our rightful place but we (the church) are to restore and rebuild this country back to its original place and purpose.  The Church is the builder and the President is the protector of the Church, restoring lost Christian liberties and standing firm in attacks on those liberties.  He is part of God’s plan for this end time move of God.  The builders are not the protector and the protector is not the builder.  A part of the building/rebuilding is to vote.  All of us need to be aware of what is happening around us and make sure that we are on God’s side.   Watch with your spiritual eyes and pray.

“Our vote is our seed.”  Kenneth Copeland.

The Kingdom of God operates on the principle of seed-time and harvest.  EVERYTHING we see and have is a result of seed planted and harvest reaped.  We are all here today because a seed was planted.  Our vote is our seed for what we want our country to be.  A vote that is not cast is a seed planted for the wrong side because we did not actively plant a seed for righteousness.

So, who do we vote for?  No politician or party is perfect or will line up with everything we want or think we want.  Everyone has warts and flaws, so to speak.  Therefore, we vote for the platform that most closely falls in line with the Word of God and righteousness in the five areas below.  After we know where they stand in these five areas, then we can consider other issues.  If these five issues are out of line with the Word of God, all other issues will be contrary to the Word of God.

  1. Abortion – This is the number 1 issue.  It has been documented that if a candidate is on the wrong side of the abortion / life issue, they will, 90% of the time, be on the wrong side of every other issue.  (Proverbs 6:16-17; Deuteronomy 30:19)
  2. Marriage protection and sexuality – Does the party support the biblical definition of marriage and gender?  (Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:4; Genesis 2:24)
  3. Public Religious Acknowledgements and Conscience – Do they support God in the public square? Do they agree that everyone has the right to publicly believe in God and act according to their conscience?  (Romans 1:28-31; I Peter 3:15)
  4. Judges – Those we elect appoint the judges. We need them to appoint constitutional judges who will judge according to the law and the constitution, not according to their feelings or political views.  We need righteous judges appointed.  (John 7:34, Deuteronomy 1:16, Deuteronomy 16:19, Leviticus 19:15)
  5. Israel – We must have leaders who will bless Israel and will be a friend of Israel if we, as a nation, are to be blessed. (Genesis 12:3)

As Christians, we need to be very aware of a biblical truth.  Matthew 6:21 says, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also.”  Our treasure can be anything of value or importance, not just money.  Our vote is our treasure.  Where we place our vote signals to the forces of the Kingdom and the forces of darkness where our heart is.  By our vote, we choose a side.  And we also need to remember God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will NEVER contradict each other or the Word of God.  The question we should all ask ourselves is this, “Is my vote on God’s side?”
